Believers who invest their hearts, time, families, and finances in the building of a local church deserve to have confidence in church leadership. People are looking for leaders who conduct themselves with integrity and respect when making decisions that affect their lives.
We are guided by Pastors.
The Meeting House is currently being led by Bob Beaty, lead pastor. The TMH staff oversees the day-to-day ministry and operations of the church. These staff pastors serve the congregation and are responsible for the development of the spiritual life of the church. The Meeting House belongs to the Brethren in Christ (BIC) denomination and its senior pastor is hired by its local Church Board in collaboration with the BIC bishop for the Susquehanna Region.
We are Protected by our Church Board.
The Church Board of The Meeting House consists of between seven and thirteen members of the congregation who ensure the church achieves its mission of helping people find life by following Jesus. They help The Meeting House staff make timely, wise decisions. The specific job of the Board is to provide wise counsel, assure accountability, and to serve as a crisis team in waiting. Church Board members are nominated and elected in accordance with the Manual of Doctrine and Government of the Brethren in Christ Church in the U.S.
The Church Board members of The Meeting House are:
- Brent Smith, Chair
- David Hooke, Vice Chair
- Brett Stafford, Secretary
- JohnPaul Bennet
- Allison Watts
- Winnie Thuma
- Del Hawbaker
- Stefanie Swegar
- Kyle Letner
- Mark Swarner
We are Strengthened by Church Members.
Our Church Members facilitate and celebrate the work of God through The Meeting House. We rely on their wisdom for the approval of appointed members to The Meeting House Church Board, appointed delegates for Regional and General Assembly of the Brethren in Christ U.S., our annual spending plan, and any financial loans to facilitate the ministry expansion of The Meeting House.
We are Supported by Our Denomination.
Similar to the ways in which a pastor leads a congregation, the Leadership Council of the Brethren in Christ provides day-to-day leadership and support for its pastors and missionaries. This council comprises the BIC U.S. national director, bishops, regional conference bishops, director of World Missions, and director of Shared Services. The relationship that The Meeting House has with our regional bishop provides an additional layer of accountability and support to our governance.
